Letter from the Masthead: Fall 2024

IMG 1671

Hola, bonjour, marhaban, privet, nǐ hǎo, and hello! Whether you’re reading this from a rondavel in Botswana, a reihenhaus in Germany, a rickshaw in Cambodia, or your very own residential college here at Yale, we want to thank you, our readers and contributors, for your viewership. You are our sine qua non. Without you, none of this would be possible.

The Yale Review of International Studies was founded in the fall of 2010 by a small group of undergraduates looking to make international relations journalism more accessible for students. 14 years later – at the risk of patting ourselves on the back too soon – we’ve done that and much more. Each year, YRIS receives hundreds of submissions from over 30 countries. From Palestinian land rights to the letters on a pack of instant ramen, we are honored to serve as an outlet through which a myriad of perspectives, discussions and topics can be represented.

As we enter into an era of profound geopolitical uncertainty, we’d like the opportunity to reflect as editors-in-chief to this north star. YRIS is a place of engagement. Engagement with international issues of course, but also a deeper (dare I say sentimental?) engagement with one another. We invite you to read these articles, reflect on their implications, and find common ground, but not be afraid to challenge their conclusions. We hope you enjoy.

Sincerely,

The YRIS 2024-25 Masthead
